Fanime Con 2017

Fanime Con, is a popular anime convention in Northern California. It has found a home at the San Jose Convention Center, as well as the Fairmont & Hilton hotels nearby. It is a huge event that doesn’t just cater to those who are fans of Japanese animation and manga, but has events for people who appreciate video games, podcasts, karaoke, and even has a few rooms for people looking for love. The Con is all…

The Great Philadelphia Comic Con 2017

It’s really difficult to give a top five or any kind of review, for a convention that you actually put work into. At the Great Philadelphia Comic Con, I was not just Press, I was also part of the staff, as this Con was officially hosted by the Points of Interest Podcast Network, in which I am a proud member of. As a result, I helped set up, I helped moderate panels, and I helped…

Wondercon 2017

I’ve been covering Wondercon for the past five years, and I never seem to get bored talking about it. Each year its something new and something different. So before I get to my five favorite things about Wondercon 2017, let me wax poetic about the Wondercon of yesteryear. In 2016, Wondercon relocated to the grand city of Los Angeles, at the LA Convention Center. It was an attempt to accommodate it’s ever growing attendance, and…

Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con 2016

This year, the convention formerly known as Comikaze, gets a name change, and becomes the Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con, a Comikaze Expo Presented by POW! Entertainment. I love long titles for things. Despite the new name, this convention continues to be the one that seems to fly under the radar of most people. This is my fourth year going to this event, and it’s probably one of my favorites. It has the right…

Long Beach Comic Con 2016

This has been the third year I’ve covered Long Beach Comic Con, and it just keeps getting better each time. Much like it’s sister convention, the Long Beach Comic Expo, this event celebrates the comic book artists and writers and shows a lot of love for the cosplayers. A Comic Book Convention of Yesteryear, LBCC sticks to the comic con roots and shows it through the panels and it’s show floor. I have to give…

San Diego Comic-Con 2016

Through a series of fortunate events, I found myself at the San Diego Comic Con, and I learned very quickly, that the hype was real. Considered to be one of the largest, if not THE largest convention in the world, SDCC 2016, despite not having any huge reveals, was still the largest, most exciting convention I have ever been to. And, there is no doubt in my mind, that if you have the opportunity to…

Back When We Were Interesting Ep. 91: Pop Cult Pins' AJ O'Bando Returns (Denver Comic Con 2016)

Welcome to Back When We Were Interesting, where we talk about the stories and the experiences that make us and you, interesting. This week, Josh, Francis, & Che (sort of), catch up with our favorite con goer and pin maker, AJ O’Bando, who not only shares with us his love of creating, but nerds out with us. It’s pop culture, video games, conventions, as much more, with the man with the master plan, on this…

Denver Comic Con 2016

Amelia almost made it easy on me by being on top of all the Denver Comic Con 2016 coverage. She got the pictures, she went to the spotlights, she did the panels. She did way more than I did, and I had someone else with me, helping me with all the shenanigans. So, I’ll try to give a different perspective on the events of Denver Comic Con from an outsiders perspective. Someone from a different…

The Los Angeles Comic Book & Science Fiction Convention 2016

Everyone has heard about the San Diego Comic Con or the New York Comic Con, because they’re huge pop culture conventions with celebrities, and sneak peaks, and everything a geek/nerd/regular person could ask for. Those are amazing and worth going to, but sometimes you can’t beat the “intimacy” of the small convention. In Downtown Los Angeles, at a location called “The Reef”, a giant wooden chair greets you for a one day, seven hour event,…

Comikaze 2015

Five years ago, a pop culture convention was born. And like all fledgeling conventions, they start off small and intimate. Then, two pop culture icons noticed this convention, and wanted it for their own. Stan Lee, of Marvel Comic Books fame, and Cassandra Peterson, the Mistress of the Dark, stepped up to the plate and purchased this show and it was good. It felt appropriate that these two would join forces for a convention all…

Long Beach Comic Con

With each new convention, I am finding myself becoming more and more a connoisseur of the comic con scene. Each location offers something unique to it’s venue, and with each event, I grow as an attendee. For those confused by that comment, I go to conventions as Press for my outlets the Points of Interest Podcast Network and The Geekly Planet. Now, let’s begin this venture through the Long Beach Comic Con.

The LA Comic & Science Fiction Convention

Conventions are on fleek nowadays, which may mean that they’re on Kim Kardashian’s butt or something, I forget, but they are the thing for the mainstream public to do if they want to keep on top of pop culture. They’ve been “must do” events for the last five years, and they continue to grow in popularity. The San Diego Comic Con alone is a spectacle of people, news, reveals, and geekdom that can barely be…

Wondercon – Day 3

I survived Wondercon! I made it to Easter Sunday, the last day of the convention, and what a weekend it was. There were laughs, there were cries, there were booty, booty, booty, rocking everywhere. Look, I’m going to have to be creepy and say, there were a lot of exposed butts at Wondercon, both female and male. Still, that did not deter, and in some cases, it enhanced, this final day of pop culture geekery.

Wondercon – Day 2

The second day is when the real fun begins, because now the convention gets crowded, the cosplay get’s turned up a notch, and the panels get real. But Wondercon wouldn’t be Wondercon without a bump or two in the road. For one such bump, which actually didn’t happen to me, but to some fellow attendees upon arrival to the Anaheim Convention Center, I take you to the third level of the parking garage. Now, normally…

Wondercon – Day 1

There’s a certain thrill you get when you attend an event with a purpose. You have a reason to be there other than just as a watchful attendee. You actually have to pay attention to everything, have a critical eye on events that would otherwise be overlooked, and not be afraid to say you don’t like something. Not that Wondercon hinges on my opinion, but some random, inquiring mind want to know what this experience…

Day 27 – The Final Day of Comikaze aka Missed Opportunities

It was the last day of Comikaze, and it was the shortest day of the convention, closing out at 5pm. But before I drove off to Los Angeles, I started my morning with an extra hour of sleep. It was like Christmas came early, as I woke up feeling better than the day before. So with a spring in my step, I primped, and prepped, and pounced into the Los Angeles Convention center for one…

Day 26 – Comikaze Day 2: Super Single Geeks

Welcome back brave adventurer. Time to finish off the second day of Stan Lee’s Comikaze. Last we saw our “hero”, he was in line for the Super Single Geek’s panel, a happenstance that turned into a wonderful experience. My first observation were the number of men and women who were in line with me. My expectations were shattered. I thought for sure that there would be a heavy ratio of men to women, but I…

Day 24 – Comikaze Day 1 at Night!

I’m going to give a little disclaimer here. I am sick. So when I went to the Comikaze in hopes of getting into it, and all that good stuff, I found it difficult, as I do, and did, actually feel sick. And of course, this is day one of both sickness and the Comikaze, but I intend to endure, and give you a brief write up of the first day at the convention!

Day 15 – Final Fantasy Fan Festiveal 2014 Highlights & Impressions

It’s been a mere hour and a half since the Final Fantasy Fan Festival has ended and I’m still riding on the high that was the closing ceremonies. That final hour was like a rock concert without the rock band. Well, okay, I think I can officially say that “The Primals” qualify as a rock band. I’ve gained a new appreciation not only for the game, but for it’s players, and I cannot wait to…

Day 8 – Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival

It’s five days away, and I’m prepping myself for the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be my third/fourth (depending on who’s counting) convention I’ve ever attended, and I’m getting excited. This, though, is apparently not their first convention. So I’m here to give a little detail on what it is and why I’m excited on going.
